What is CCPA/CPRA?

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), gives California consumers rights over their personal information and imposes obligations on businesses that collect it.

CPRA Effective Date

CPRA became operative January 1, 2023, with enforcement beginning July 1, 2023. It applies to personal information collected on or after January 1, 2022. The CPPA now enforces the law.

Enforcement

The California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) enforces CCPA/CPRA. The 30-day cure period for violations has been eliminated. Penalties range from $2,500 for unintentional to $7,500 for intentional violations.
