What is WCAG?

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are international standards for making web content accessible to people with disabilities, including visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive impairments.

Released October 2023, WCAG 2.2 adds 9 new success criteria focused on cognitive accessibility, mobile interaction, and authentication. It builds on WCAG 2.0 and 2.1.

Legal Requirements

Many jurisdictions require WCAG compliance: ADA (USA), Section 508 (US federal), European Accessibility Act (EU by June 2025), and AODA (Ontario, Canada). Non-compliance can result in lawsuits and fines.
